updating from the backyard

so… i must say… this is awesome.

i’m sitting in the backyard right now typing this update. it is crazy that it took us this long to get the backyard up and running, but now that we have, it makes me want to get the rest of the house finished. i’ve got a beer (as predicted, see last week’s post) by my side, and my laptop running on the house wireless (so i can type this). kara and owen are on the lawn, phoebe is running around like a mad dog right now. owen laughs every time she passes.

this, my friends, is the way we should live our lives.

i realized the other day (i’ve always been a late bloomer), that we spend so much of our lives chasing careers, money and goals, all of which are good and useful, but we don’t spend enough time (my generation? at least) just hanging out and relaxing. i mean, take even this blog, i can update everything in near real-time, all the time. i can email around the world. i can communicate with anyone, anywhere, all the time… it’s nuts. i have to think, and perhaps my parents can validate, that there was a time where all you could do that day when you had to reach people was send a letter (god forbid) and wait for a response.

don’t get me wrong, i love technology. i make my living on it, but at the same time, i have to wonder if it distracts us from what is really important.

you know, like the little man we built this website for. he’s the best thing in the world. really.

huge news this week. owen took his first steps. they’re a bit shaky and everything, but they’re still his first steps. we got a bit of it on video, so please check it out. oh, and he’s already 10 months old. that’s just crazy to us, but true none-the-less. we’re going to have a big party in two months for him, so stay tuned.

now, you also might have noticed that we changed the site around a little. i like the blog software so much that we basically integrated the site within the blog software. most of the top nav bar is redundant, so i’ve taken most of the navigation elements and incorporated them to the left there. we’re also working on another surprise, but i need marc and aimee to help me out with it… :) but i think we finally fixed the age calculator to the left there… finally.

oh, and this is worth mentioning: marc and aimee got a house in austin. it’s beautiful. i can’t wait to visit.

love you all.

photos and videos updated.
