finally, finally, finally…
…with some help from marc, he sorted out our issues with the age calculator. not to bore you (but i will), we were using javascript before and now we found some better alternatives of the php kind. so, it should be accurate from here on out. i could have it calculating in weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds as well, but that’s just overkill…
we had a busy weekend on a playdate with tilden (see the friends of owen link to the right) on saturday and then sunday, well, sunday changed our lives forever.
allow me to explain. and please assume that i know what i’m talking about here. kara and i love breakfast. it is by far, the best meal of the day. and not just because you should start your day with a good meal or anything… no, generally breakfast means bacon. or some other form of heavily cooked pork. so, we’re pretty big breakfast heads — we like our breakfast, we like or coffee, we love our bacon… and now, well, today, we enjoyed the sumptuous pleasure of the beignet. holy living hell. it is heaven on earth — a deep fried pocket of heavenly goodness. up until now, we had always considered fred’s in sausalito our favorite breakfast place in the bay area. after all, they do deep fry your french toast. and the pancakes are just like dad’s. but today, heavenly of days, we found just for you cafe in dogpatch (yes, that’s what it’s called) in san francisco.
you see, they have beignets. and they’re huge and awesome and good and next time we go, it’s just the beignets and coffee please. seven bucks out the door. but the real treat lies in the fact that the beignets taste just like my grandmother’s fried-dough. after the first bite of the powdered sugar goodness, i was transported back to new haven, ct., where my situ would get up early, early in the morning, make the dough, wait for it to rise and then would fry it up, slather it in butter and dip it in sugar. think of it like the freshest, warmest donut you’ve ever had.
so we get these beignets delivered to our table and they smell just like situ’s fried dough. so, we move to the next step, we slather them in butter (they already came with a ton of powdered sugar on them…) and, yes, they taste just like fried dough. i’m so happy. i’ll be going back often.
owen is having a rough week. he took a pretty serious digger this week and has a bruise on his cheek and then this morning he rolled, yes rolled, down the stairs. before you go thinking it’s the long flight of stairs, it’s not. it was down by the door to the backyard, but it was still scary enough. and he’s been sleeping really crappily lately. he woke up today at 5:15. that sucks.
our weather, however, has been amazing. we’re going to cook up some burgers tonight for dinner.
other randomness from the web for you:
he’s crazy.
i love where ultra-modern computers are going.
and, forgive me zaida, but the philippines are crazy.
love you all. photos soon!
