out in austin
hey all…
we’re hanging out in austin this week checking out the town, seeing our awesome friends and staying with marc and aimee. owen has been all over the map during this trip — from throwing fits to being his damn cute self to throwing out his knuckle greeting whenever he has the chance… pretty damned funny. as with all our trips, he had a fever (103.5 even) during this trip. lasted a day — he was a trooper in the end, but holy hell, he was bright red and pissed.
had fun with marc setting up a linux pc (aimee: “for like 5 days.”)… good practice for when i do it at home… and for when owen gets his olpc. i am definitely going to switch at home now… while it’s more of a pain to get the install working, it seems much more stable and ‘peppy’ (and yes, i just used ‘peppy’) than vista can ever be. i realize that i mentioned and sung the benefits of vista a while back — i was so, so terribly wrong.
one of the funnier things that happened on this trip — owen has been doing the whole knuckle greeting (fist pound, whatever you want to call it) for a while now… well, at the airport, he ran into this small 1 year old kid and walked right up to her and tried to do his little knuckle greeting. she, not being as up to speed with what the kids are doing now-a-days, didn’t know what to do. owen sat there perplexed. kara had to stifle a laugh. once we explained to the father of the one year old what was going on, he laughed and offered his own knuckles to owen in greeting. owen, of course, met him in the middle and the greeting was complete.
then, as we’re getting on the plane, he’d walk up to strangers and put his fist out. we ended up explaining it to everyone, of course, less our child look like an activist from the 60s.
sorry for the lack of and the general delay in getting photos posted. not updating remotely (although we totally could…) due to the whole, get-the-pictures-off-the-camera and then upload them to flickr process… which (now that i look at it) is monumentally easier than how i used to update the site… oh technology, how i love you so.
love you all.
