the world is full of crazies
so, not terribly long ago we had a little bump on the mazda when kara was driving it in san francisco. it totally wasn’t her fault mind you — it’s just that someone in front of her decided to start backing up on one of the busier streets in the city. then that person decided to ignore the horn that was blaring behind her. then she hit the mazda and, for whatever reason, didn’t even stop then… just kept backing up.
weird. at least she was cool about handing out her insurance info so we didn’t have to fight over who was at fault.
fast forward a bit and we finally got the car fixed. i was driving it to pickup kara and a woman almost rear ends me when i stop for a yellow light… she did one of those ‘veer-off-to-the-side-to-not-hit-the-car-in-front-of-me’ moves. at least she didn’t hit us…
so, on the very same day, kara is driving us all back from lunch and we watch someone basically just run a red light and make a left turn as we’re heading into the intersection. the only words i could muster (and i’m not a religious man) were ‘oh my god!’ kara slammed on the brakes, dealt with the odd feeling of anti-locks, and came skidding to a stop in the middle of the intersection. if she had kept her course, it would have been ugly. kudos to kara for some awesome reflexes. owen slept through the entire thing, which was reassuring.
she sent the horn blaring and got no acknowledgement from the morons in the car that made the illegal left turn. we did get acknowledgement from the police officer who was stopped at the red light. he waved to us, turned around and (presumably) pulled the idiot over.
was just a weird day on the road.
