sequel update
kara went to the hospital this wek for four hours to get tests to see if she has gestational diabetes. evidently it is fairly common in pregger people, but definitely wasn’t something she had with owen. maybe this has something to do with my previous post about her love of oreo cookies and ben and jerry’s.
every time she has to go take these tests, they give her this orange-soda-looking-medical-liquid. i have to say, i’m tempted to try it, because it looks just like orange crush.
so, i took a pto day this week to sit with owen while kara went for her battery of tests. i have to say, you pregger-chicks out there are amazing. i’d kill someone if i had to have that much blood drawn, drink nasty-ass soda-looking things, deal with 24 hours of labor. there’s also quotes like: ‘the baby is sitting on my hip bone… and it hurts.’ bear with me here, but guys have no effing idea how to relate to something like that. or the feeling of a baby kicking you from the inside out. guys just fill up with farts and indigestion.
oh and then there’s that whole giving birth to a watermelon sized alien that has been incubating in your gut forcing you to carry around all this extra fluid in your belly.
god bless you kara. and i’m not even religious. god bless all you pregger-folk out there. it is a cliche, but it’s a pretty beautiful thing you’re doing.
kara’s test came back negative — i.e. no diabetes here. she’s back on the sauce (er, ice cream).
(in the spirit of aimee’s blog) listening: to the sound of owen saying ‘trash truck’ over and over again, which is currently parked out front of our house.

congrats on the negative! going without sweets for the next few months would have been cruel! can’t wait to see you guys - we’ll be in CA july 1!!
