waking up saturday

sleeping in his new room

this morning i woke up at about 5:30 because i have this idea for something that i can’t get out of my head.  i laid there this morning waiting for owen to wake up with his usual series of cries.  he doesn’t wake up that well.  he gets it from kara.  she doesn’t wake up that well either.

5:30 became 6:00 became 6:15.  i decided it would be better to just get out of bed, go upstairs, make some coffee and get ready for the day.

as part of my morning, i cracked owen’s bedroom door open a bit in a trick kara taught me with owen.  he doesn’t cry when he can wake up and see that his door is open.

sure enough… as i was brainstorming my new brilliant idea on kara’s laptop, i could hear owen in the other room, get up and say ‘mama?’ in this tired toddler voice.

i replied from the living room that, in fact, papa was upstairs.

he replied ‘papa?’

i went in, met his smile with a toothfilled grin where he jumped out of bed and sprinted into my arms in this huge two-year old hug.

it was effing awesome.

any day where that cycle of crying in the morning is broken is such a great way to start the day.

  1. gorgeous gorgeous! love the photo and the story… i can’t wait for a hug! we’re still waiting for the kid’s vision to come into focus - which will be awesome - but, a hug… oh man, will that be RAD.

  2. Oh no!! I was hoping the waking up crying would stop soon but from your post it looks like maybe not. I like the door trick. We’ll have to try it. We can’t wait to see you guys in a few weeks.
