little brother dylan

dylan is the little brother for now, but i don’t think it will always be that way.  i’ve been pulling out owen’s old clothes to find that dylan wears clothes owen didn’t wear until he was 4-5 months old.  dylan is definately bigger and longer than owen was.  he is 6 weeks younger than owen in the picture above.

adventures in babysitters…

we finally did it.  we finally, finally found a kid-handler. kara and i got out of the house and down to noe valley so we could go eat at firefly.  food was wonderful, kara really enjoyed the wine.

we’re pretty stoked now — we have someone we can call to watch the kids so we can go grab dinner, a movie, whatever.

and i think owen has a crush on his babysitter.  his new thing, when he’s shy, is to jam his fist in his mouth and then drool all over it.  total chick magnet.

yeah — it adds to the cost of the evening, but it felt like we were normal adults again.  we didn’t have to tip extra as the clean up fee, we didn’t have to chase owen around the resteraunt and away from the kitchen.  kara didn’t have to don her blanket to feed dylan.

it was so… 2005. :)  i like this new phase.

oh the places we’ll go: munich

so, i know what you’re thinking.  john, the guy who loves beer will be in munich.  you know, germany.  you know, the place where beer follows what is called the purity law.  and, well, he can’t possibly be there for oktoberfest — the celebration of beer.  not a chance.

ready for preschool

owen and his pumpkin

i’ve been in complete denial about sending owen to preschool.  san francisco, like many cities, has waiting lists for their preschools, parents are advised to put there babies on waiting list when they are born.  some preschools even accept applications once you are pregnant.  it’s preschool?!   i just couldn’t bring myself to tour preschools when owen was still a baby.  i just couldn’t see my little baby in school already.  i still find myself feeling like, he couldn’t possibly be ready to go to preschool, to be away from me for that long.  i have visions of him being sad, sitting in the corner, friendless, crying to go home, for his mama.

oh the places we’ll go: berlin

berlin is this mix of staggering history juxtaposed with an incredible art culture and scene.  it seems like a young city — skaters are everywhere, graffiti murals dot the sides of the buildings and bands are always coming through town.  it is a city that i definitely want to come back to — with kara — so we can soak a bit more of it up and discover the hidden parts of berlin that i’m sure we’d love.
