dylan had his first playdate without owen last thursday. it hadn’t occured to me until recently that dylan had never played with another kid without owen. okay so he hit charlotte, twice. the first one was more of a shove. the second one was a slap to the face! yikes! it’s bad enough dylan hit another kid, but the kid was john’s boss’s daughter. the kid needs to work on his social skills. i gave him a prompt time out and he didn’t do it again and started sharing their snacks. babysteps.

man, our kids have it made. we set-up the projector in there room in attempts to have an adult dinner. the kids; owen, dylan, mia and kira ate first and then we sent them into the boys room to watch a movie.
the night ran late, very late like 11:30 late. dylan at some point came out and said “night, night”, left and crawled into his bed and put himself to sleep, never mind the movie playing above his head, he went to sleep anyway. that’s something i’d expect owen to do, i was pleasantly surprised. we successfully had an adult diner and the kids were only partially neglected =)

that’s how dylan tells me “stop” or more accurately “shut up” when i’m asking him too many questions. he puts his hand out in my face and screams “aaaaahhhhh!”. i get it. i am asking him a thousand times if he needs to pee, because i suspect he does, he’s been pretty good about telling me so i just need to trust him.
yes, i said pee. he’s been wearing cotton training pants, basically thick underwear, when we are home and been peeing in the toilet most of the time. there’s sometimes a little leak but then finishes in the toilet and he’s starting to wake up dry from naps and his nightime diaper which used to way a ton are very light. so we are making progress and i know he definitely understands. he hasn’t pee’d in almost three hours and i really want to go get ready for the day but i know the second i leave, he’ll need to pee, but i dare not ask again or i’ll get yelled at.
UPDATE: he did in fact tell me, without me asking him again and he went pee and poop. trust. trust. trust.

ugh! i knew something was wrong when he woke up from his nap yesterday with his eyes completely boogered up. i spent a good 10 minutes with a warm wash cloth trying to clean it up. he’s had a cold and i just thought it was from that and then this morning, the tell tale sign… pink eyes! i called the doctor and she thought for sure he had pink eye and just called in a prescription for eye drops. i had to bribe owen to let me put the eye drops in his eyes. it was terrible. do you think tears affect the effect of the drops?

owen still loves to paint. i discovered some color by number books and he loves them. he didn’t used to pay attention to the objects on the page and or stay in the lines, but now since there is a number assigned to it and a color assigned to the number he tries really hard to only get the color in the area. to make matters even more difficult he’s just discovered watercolors and insists on using them for everything, but it’s a hard media to control. i think he does a great job with it. oh and if you’re wondering that’s his “painting hat”, i should get him a little french beret hats and painters palette.

after being alone with the kids for a week and half, the kids and i boarded a plane for austin, texas to celebrate harrison’s birthday. the kids did pretty good on the flight, owen pretty much just watched his dvd player and while dylan won’t sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time was pretty manageable on the plane, between snacks, searching through magazines for puppies and trains he was fairly entertained. john met us at the austin airport, the boys were so excited to see him, me too.
it was great seeing the blaze’s. i loved watching the boys play together. they had a lot of fun.

the big boys had fun playing too!

i am writing this from an airplane. i am amazed, repeatedly, at the ignorance and lack of general respect that adults will treat others with. i just watched a grown man – almost your grandfather’s age – hit and kick the chair in front of him because someone reclined their seat.
i always thought you were allowed to recline your seat on a flight. there’s even this little button on the handle that lets you drop the seat back a bit so that you can sleep in comfort. this injustice (note: sarcasm) was too much for this grandfatherly type to endure. so he kicked the back of the chair in front of him to send the reclining passenger a message.
i pointed out that i thought he was being a bit overbearing. fine, i wasn’t minding my own business – sure – but i just can’t stand it when this kind of crap happens.
he told me to “f*** off!”
i told him in return that my young children have better manners than him.
what did the airline do? moved the passenger that got his chair kicked back from economy plus (where you get a smidge more leg room) to economy.
shame on all of you.

dylan’s favorite thing to wear are his boots. i have to hide them or it will be the only thing he’ll wear. rain or shine. i think it’s really cute but the boots are too small for him, he can’t even wear them with socks anymore.

i decided to do a few errands the other day and thought it would be fun to take the bus and the muni train. they loved it. the whole bus ride dylan had a little grin on his face he just kept repeating “bus bus bus” i’m pretty sure he pee’d his pants out of excitement. we successfully completed our errands and got back on the muni train a little later than planned, smack in the middle of rush hour. we got on the crowed train to no available seats. an nice man gave up his seat so the boys could sit down. owen was so protective over dylan, he held him tight until the train emptied out some close to home.
